We’re officially isolating. I’m not going to pretend that the thought of having the kids at home without school, kindy, dance, karate and our usual socialising with friends hasn’t got me feeling just a little daunted. Once the schooling at home starts we’ll get into some sort of routine I’m sure, but that’s 3 weeks away!
Three weeks of school holidays and nowhere to go. Three weeks of staying at home, keeping us safe but isolated from our usual holiday outings. While it makes me apprehensive and sad I realise that being able to stay in our comfortable home, distancing ourselves from others in a bid to keep the virus at bay makes us pretty lucky. I’m also not silly enough to imagine that my 7 and 5 year old will really understand this so I’ve got to come up with some fun activities. Both Master and Miss E are developing a love for being in the kitchen and cooking and baking is something fun we can all do together. So naturally we’ll be doing a lot of it!
This week we have made a banana bread which was delicious and today we decided on a carrot cake. The banana bread recipe we used was easy and we ended up with a great result.
Our carrot cake is simply a masterpiece! Recipe found here. Cream cheese frosting is obviously a must when making a carrot cake, but it’s been so long I’d forgotten just how awesome it is!
One of our biggest inspirations for getting in the kitchen is watching all the great kids on Instagram. Chefs getting their children to help out (and sometimes steal the show!) are posting daily so there is always something new to watch and to try out.
So there you have it, just one of the ways we plan to use our time at home together. What do you have planned?
