DIY: Ikea Kids Table Makeover

Updated: Aug 5, 2021

I’m not sure what’s got in to me (maybe age!) but I’m in a bit of a DIY/getting crafty/makeover craze. I haven’t actually got around to doing most these weird and wonderful things I’d like to do but I did manage this small makeover! I’m not going to go through all the step-by-steps, I’m certainly no expert, and there are hundreds if not thousands of tutorials giving advice on how it’s done. I just wanted to share my handy work with everyone!

Is it perfect, no of course it isn’t, but it is a vast improvement on how it was and it is more in keeping with the colours of our home. The old Ikea set had looked in much better condition while it resided at Nan and Gramp’s house, but since coming to live with us it has been put though its paces. I’ve been wanting to do something like this for ages, give it a good clean up and a new lease of life. Plus the red chairs annoyed me because they didn’t go with anything else!

So how did I do it?

After reading up online about how to paint laminated furniture and looking at different paints, contacts and adhesive films, I had a rough idea of what I wanted to do. I went off to my local Bunnings and picked up some sandpaper, chose the roll of decorative contact with the help of my trusty sidekicks (the two E’s) and picked up a can of spray paint in a complimentary colour. I had a little white spray paint left over from awhile ago and used that on the table. It was a lovely warm sunny day so I went outside where it was well ventilated and got painting.

Pretty happy with the finished result and it’s given the table and chairs a personalised touch.
