Know You Better

Updated: Aug 5, 2021

We met by chance Was there a second glance?

Same circles, but aloof Not recognised, there’s my proof.

Laughed at the circumstance Socialised, friend’s celebrations, dance.

Years of nothing but highlight reels Watching snap shots of what is real.

Who reached out first, it never mattered At the time I was broken, desperate, shattered.

Friendship, advice Catch up? That’d be nice.

Dinner, drinks, awesome conversation Nerves, excitement, no complication.

Sporadic plans Ground shifting like sand.

Different pages Different stages.

But there it is, that spark I have no idea what I want, I’m blind and in the dark.

Disappearing, no word, then your here You’re on my phone, back in my sphere.

Is this friendship, on each others peripheral for over a decade I hear from you and my day is made.

I’ve been burnt, you have stories too Filling in the gaps of what we already knew.

Blurring lines, shifting boundaries Not sure if it’s heart or head that’s in a quandary.

When did things get so complicated Time fades feelings, frustration abated.

Back to friends, but with an edge Always flirting with the line, atop a rocky ledge.

Will this evolve, or is this it Repeating our pattern in this clunky orbit.

Perhaps you’ll see this, like a kind of letter But after all this time, I want to know you better.
