Everyone’s values are different. I’m talking about the value of money. The value of freedom. The value of superiority. The value of status. What drives us? Why do we do what we do?

At any one point in history there are people who are enjoying life, traveling along this journey with no issues at all. Everything is roses and nothing is too mach trouble. Then there are those who struggle. Those who work hard but will never have the same luxuries afforded them due to time, place and circumstance. This is a simple truth. Yes you can change your life, but it’s a whole lot easier if you are blessed with a decent leg up and a good helping of luck.

Everyone’s view of the world is different. Of course it is. I don’t believe we see the world for what it actually is, we see a projection of ourselves on top of our world. Our perception depends on where we are sitting. You are going to see this world of ours and all it’s people in a different light, depending on whether you are in a positive or a negative place. Talking on a world scale can be daunting though. I mean, how on earth (pun intended) are we supposed to make a difference? How about we focus in on our own personal interactions? How do we conduct ourselves and move through the world?

How we treat others has a direct link on how we feel about ourselves. By bringing someone down, you may feel better about yourself, but you haven’t actually added anything to the world. You’re positive feelings are just counteracted by the other persons negative feelings. Like a parasite, you have just sucked the life and positivity from your victim, growing in strength, but only to the detriment of your host. No value has been added. It’s simply a matter of transference. It is just the same as stealing from someone. If someone has done something productive, whether it be providing a service or material goods, and they are paid for that service by money. Value has been added. The money has value because you have worked hard for it and the person receiving the money for the goods or services has also worked hard for the money they are to receive, therefore feeling valued for the job they’ve done. Everyone’s happy. You steal that product, you have simply taken. You haven’t added any value at all. Transference. On the otherhand, by boosting someone else up and making them feel good, we make ourselves feel better. We have just added to the world. Two positive people.

This can be true for everything. Religion, sexual preference, the colour of someones skin. Humans are really good at finding something to pick on, some way of differentiating ourselves from each other. Somehow we forget that we are all human. Don’t take away from others by putting them down, by casting them aside with judgement. When you take away from the individual you take away from the world. Why not add to it. Enrich your life by enriching others. Ever notice how a smile is contagious. The same goes with respect and kindness.

Negativity is everywhere. We have it rammed down our throats all day everyday. Every headline is based on sensationalism to draw in the masses. Before the research is done, before we have information gathered from reliable sources coming from all sides, opposing or otherwise.Yes we need to be informed, but we are tearing down whole communities, whole religions, whole countries based on the abhorrent actions of a few. I wonder what reaction we would have if we heard about all the positive things happening in the world. What if we concentrated on love and hope, rather than the hate and destruction. We are being fed all this information which is causing fear. People in fear often act in violence.

Does anyone actually feel like we’ve moved forward? Have we learned from past mistakes? I certainly don’t have all the answers but like everything I believe positive change starts at home and within ourselves. So I put it to you, What makes your world go round?
